Mains, battery or solar?

Electric fence energisers play a crucial role in both modern agriculture and smallholding setups. Hotline energisers provide a reliable means of containing livestock and securing boundaries.

Three main types of energisers dominate the market: Battery-powered, mains-powered and solar-powered. Each type of energiser offers unique advantages suited to different applications, livestock and environments. Understanding these differences and advantages can help you to make more informed decisions based on your specific needs.

Mains-Powered Energisers:

Hotline mains-powered energisers have a greater pool of power to draw from than battery energisers. This means they can climb to greater power levels. Because they are connected directly to the grid, concerns about battery life are eliminated by a reliable and continuous power source. They are extremely cost effective to run and are highly suitable for permanent fence systems where fences must operate continuously.

Our mains energisers require minimal maintenance beyond routine checks and feature a battery back-up connection ensuring seamless use in the event of a mains power loss.

Solar-Powered Energisers:

Hotline solar-powered energisers feature integrated, high-capacity solar panels carefully matched to replace the battery energy used while operating as quickly as possible. Our Fire Drake energisers provide a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution and are particularly well-suited to remote areas where connecting to mains power is impractical.

Our solar energisers have been developed specifically for the UK climate. A battery charger is also included with all Fire Drake energisers to help keep the battery charged when sunlight is in short supply.
